What We Are Watching in April 2025!

Hi everyone! Happy April! Spring is finally here and hopefully sunny, warm days are now here to stay!
We've had a busy few weeks with personal matters and working on our house that we haven't had the time to go see any new movies, but we have been watching some new content! PLUS we've had some EXCITING news that came out of CinemaCon this past week!
The various entertainment companies held different panels to preview all of their upcoming 2025 films as well as update on their 2026 roster. Let's just say, we're going to have an insane summer next year because both of our fandoms/favorite characters will be getting new films!
Some highlights for us from CinemaCon:
The anticipated Sony's "Beyond the Spider-Verse" was announced for the summer of 2027. This film series is one of Mike's absolute favorites because the animation and story are so good. Plus, his favorite character ever is Spider-Man!
Speaking of Spider-Man, the fourth Spider-Man film staring Tom Holland was also announced by Sony, which will premiere next July, 2026! We are so excited to see how Peter's story continues to unfold after the whirlwind film, "Spider-Man, No Way Home" that brought beloved villains and Spidey variants into the MCU!
Walt Disney Animation also presented its roster, and announced a few coming soon films such as the new MCU film "Thunderbolts", which will be premiering in just a few short weeks! The audience also got a few sneak peeks into films such as the third installment to Avatar, which is titled "Avatar: File and Ash", and "Zootopia 2"!
Last but not least, Universal gave the audience a sneak peek into the second installment of "Wicked"! Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande presented the trailer to the audience and the audience members that saw it have nothing but good things to say and excitement all around! "Wicked For Good" is Amanda's most anticipated film of 2025 and hopefully we get the trailer to see for ourselves soon!
Besides all the CinemaCon news, Marvel surprised fans with the super star casting of its upcoming new Avengers film, "Avengers: Doomsday"! The cast announcement took place over for hours as Marvel kept revealing casting chairs with each name on it. Tom Hiddleston will be back as Loki, so you know Amanda is excited! We are also getting Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, so it'll be so fun to see how everyone comes together! This will be coming out in May 2026, so another film that we absolutely can not wait for next summer!
So what have been watching this past month?
Amanda has been busy watching some new content! The first one is "Heretic" that is streaming on Max.
Starring Hugh Grant, Sophie Thatcher, and Chloe East, this thriller was pretty good. The story was decent and it was more like a "kidnap/escape" type of film. Hugh Grant was very convincing with his character. A24 has become such a great production studio with its spooky films and this one definitely gives you that uncomfortable feeling. Overall, the film was just ok, but it is worth a watch!
Next up is White Lotus. Amanda just finished Season 1 and is completely HOOKED! It's one of those shows that you can't turn away from. It's kind of like a reality show in a way where you're so invested in these folks' lives. It's a show that really sucks you in and it's nice to have shows like this where you can escape mentally to. Jennifer Coolidge is in this and she is so good, as well as the rest of the cast. Can't wait to keep watching!
Amanda also started the Netflix series "Adolescence", which has been Number 1 on Netflix's list for a while. This is an English made show, and it revolves around a 13 year old boy being convicted of murder of a classmate. Personally, the show is a little slow and a hard watch. Hopefully it'll pick up in the later episodes.
Of course, we are watching "Daredevil" weekly on Disney Plus! We can't believe the show is nearing it's conclusion soon, and can't wait to chat about it on the podcast soon! We are seeing many parallels between Wilson Fisk and Matthew Murdock as we follow both of their growth throughout the series.
Last but not least, we need to shout out "How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World"!
Amanda watched the first "How to Train Your Dragon" films and we both have not seen the third one. After watching it, these films are easiest one of the best trilogies in our books! It is the perfect conclusion and ties up Hiccup and Toothless's adventure so well. These movies are so beloved by so many and we see why! The characters are all fantastic, Toothless is adorable, and the stories of all three movies are solid. Also guess what? We will be covering these films on our next episode next week! If you are a huge fan, you don't want to miss our discussion!
As far as finishing "Daredevil" and "The White Lotus", we plan on seeing the upcoming film, "Sinners", which will be in theaters April 18th. We will be covering that film on the podcast as well.
