Avengers Endgame Review

saturdaymorningser

Oh boy, where do I even begin? It has taken me a while to even come up with a review just because of the amount of material to cover in this over 3 hour movie. I am going to just give a general review because I know some people still have not seen it yet and will keep the spoilers minimal.

This film was like a red carpet for all of everyone's favorite super heroes. The film takes place immediately after "Infinity War" where our remaining heroes are left reeling from the loss of their loved ones and friends. We also see how their lives have moved on, like Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) starting a family and settling down.

Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) comes back after being stuck in the quantum realm for 5 years and is very disoriented. After reuniting with Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and the others, he pitches the idea of using the quantum realm to retrieve the stones before Thanos's takeover.

They consult the help of Tony and after he eventually complies, they pursue an adventure of collecting the stones. There are victories, tears, disasters, betrayal, and laughter during their mission eventually leading up to the past Thanos (Josh Brolin) to appear and start another war for the infinity gauntlet. Bruce (Mark Ruffalo) does the snap with the Avengers' makeshift infinity gauntlet which results in all the heroes returning, most notably Spiderman (Tom Holland), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), who lead them all in using the time portals.

The ending and closure to this massive Marvel universe was very satisfying to all fans. The script is very well written and the storytelling is extremely top notch. One sits through the movie and anticipates the big climax, which is the huge fight against the enemies. Even Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) swoops in and makes a huge impact and helps a solid victory.

One thing I always love to point out is the special effects. It doesn't even begin to describe how amazing and realistic Marvel makes their characters and impactful fight scenes. Filming actors against green screen and keying out color has become so advanced, which results in the final product we see on the screen. Here's a great behind the scenes look:

Here is also a quick look explaining on how green screen is used. I highly recommend watching this video and saving it to a tutorial playlist that artists may have:

3D animation is also very much present in this movie. Groot and Rocket are CGI models and are keyed in with the human actors. Here is another excellent video showing off their VFX character models and rigs:

One last element I am going to talk about is the lighting. I am so astounded how this movie is rendered out and the mood the lightning sets for each scene in the movie. Marvel nails each scene with the lighting and music. There is such a huge difference between a peaceful serene environment with Tony Stark relaxing with his daughter and the battle scene where the camera focuses on Captain America's rejected face.

Like I stated above, how does one even begin to review such a massive film and cover everything? This movie had nods to past Avenger films, easter eggs, and little jabs here and there. I do have to say that the three hours go by extremely fast because you are drawn into the film the whole time. There is not a dull moment at all. My favorite part was seeing the lost ones come back and ready to fight.

I am going to leave the review here before I say too much more. Bring lots of tissues if you have not seen it and just enjoy. I want to hear from you guys what you thought of "Avengers Endgame"!
